چکیده

Neutral buffered Formalin, a fixative used in most pathology laboratories, was found to inactivate human T-lymphotropic virus type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus. Preparations containing this virus with infectivity titers of greater than 10(5) were treated with 1% or greater neutral buffered Formalin; after treatment, virus was undetectable (titer, less than 10(1)). In addition, when infected phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes were treated with paraformaldehyde, transmission of the virus to other such lymphocytes was eliminated.

Salivary antibodies as a means of detecting human T cell lymphotropic virus type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus infection.

Of 45 individuals seropositive for human T cell lymphotropic virus type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus, 45 were found to have detectable salivary antibodies to viral antigens by a radioimmunoprecipitation assay. The results also showed that a Western blot assay for salivary antibodies may be possible. The feasibility of a diagnostic test for human T cell lymphotropic virus type III/lympha...

Cross-reactivity to human T-lymphotropic virus type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus and molecular cloning of simian T-cell lymphotropic virus type III from African green monkeys.

Simian T-lymphotropic retroviruses with structural, antigenic, and cytopathic features similar to the etiologic agent of human acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, human T-lymphotropic virus type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus (HTLV-III/LAV), have been isolated from a variety of primate species including African green monkeys (STLV-IIIAGM). This report describes nucleic acid cross-reactivi...

Thermal inactivation of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome virus, human T lymphotropic virus-III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus, with special reference to antihemophilic factor.

The virus that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), human T lymphotropic virus/lymphadenopathy-associated virus (HTLV-III/LAV), was incubated at temperatures from 37 degrees to 60 degrees C and virus titer (ID-50) was determined over time by a microculture infectivity assay. The rate of thermal decay was consistent with first-order kinetics, and these data were used to construc...
